| DRUG FREE ALL-STARS |

| What started out as a friendly way to celebrate being drug free has turned out to be an integral part of community involvement! |
| Started in October 2005, the ESPN Drug Free All-Stars combines fun and education into a new way of educating youth about the importance of making good choices and staying away from alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Community Connections, through its Drug Free Outreach Program officially launched the ESPN Radio Drug Free All-Stars basketball team to deliver drug prevention messages in area schools and community. The All-Stars basketball team is just one way the Drug Free Communities program is working toward its mission to help prevent substance abuse within the community through education, advocacy and service. Making Positive Choices is the Key to a Healthy Lifestyle! Typically, the All-Stars face off against teams or staff at area elementary, middle and high schools. Within the past three years, the team reached out to over 85 schools and camps and has reached over 60,000 youth with our ‘positive choices’ message. Having this program in place has allowed additional opportunities to reach area youth and engage them in a new and invigorating way. The games feature a number of interactive programs and physical gags to get the crowd engaged and motivated into using their ‘anti-drugs’ for motivation. Who are we??? We're made up of members from local businesses, community groups, media, law enforcement, and others. Our mission to help keep kids making positive choices has stretched outside our original target area and games are now scheduled up to a 100 mile radius of Mercer County. These games are a commitment from local personalities and they truly allow the youth to see a direct connection between us and the community. We are passionate about our message and, as we like to say, everyone is a winner when the All-Stars are in town! What we do... Each basketball game starts with a member of the All-Star team coming out onto the court to talk to youth about making positive choices and staying away from things that can destroy their lives. In years past, the program has utilized the “What’s Your Anti-Drug?” and "Get in the Game" messages to encourage youth to find something they enjoy doing – like playing basketball – and focus on it. New in 2008!! - The All Stars will bring out a new campaign entitled – “Find the Greatness Within Yourself !”, which teaches to focus on ...
Our Passion... Community Connections, Inc. is passionate about helping youth and families achieve their goals through physical and mental well being. We are continuing the pursuit with the All-Stars are reaching out to at least 35 area schools in a 10 county region of southern West Virginia and Southwestern Virginia each year! The goal is to reach a minimum of 20,000 youth with a positive choices message! --- How to TAKE US ON??? --- The All-Stars currently are funded through a series of grant based programs that focus on the prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs as well as donations from area businesses and sponsors. Therefore… Bringing the All-Stars to your school is completely FREE! For Elementary and Middle Schools, we’d like to take on your staff in a high spirited game of hoops and fun. If you are a HIGH School, we’d ideally like to take on your basketball team or alumni. (Knowing that certain conference rules will not allow this during certain times of the year, we will work around your schedule!) All we need is two hours of time either in the morning or afternoon and we’ll make your school enjoy the power of positive thinking and positive choices. We’ll bring over $250 of prizes for your kids and lots of other fun opportunities for staff and youth alike! Download a Brochure from Season Four by clicking on the icon to the left. We are continually scheduling games throughout the year starting in September. Please contact us for more information or to secure the All- Stars for Your School Today! |
